5 Big Ideas for a better future: A Conversation on Land Use Planning with Livable Victoria

·  Following on past events such as Forward 50 the Oaklands Community Association Land Use Committee is excited to resume hosting public discussions related to land use planning in Oaklands and Victoria.

·  In the months ahead we will be hosting events featuring a range of speakers with diverse perspectives on urban planning and community development.

·  On September 28, from 7-8:30PM we are excited to host our first event in this series with Livable Victoria at the Oaklands Community Centre.

·  Livable Victoria is a non-partisan advocacy group that aims to connect the dots between our housing, transportation, and neighbourhood design choices with community goals and making great places to live, painting a picture of what our communities could look like.

·  Panelists will each present a theme and demonstrate how that theme overlays their 5 Big Ideas. For instance, showing how our housing and transportation choices impacts our health and well-being.

·  For those not able or not comfortable to join the discussion in-person on September 28, Livable Victoria will also be leading online discussions of their Big 5 Ideas in the weeks ahead.  The purpose of Oaklands Community Association Land Use Committee (CALUC) is to:

• Facilitate dialogue between land use applicants and the community to identify issues (both positive and negative) regarding land use applications.
• Be knowledgeable about the Neighbourhood and Precinct Plan(s). Oaklands CALUC may also wish to comment on the interpretation of the relevancy of the policies and whether development applications fit with the spirit and intent of the Neighbourhood Plan. 
• Communicate to everyone involved regarding: issues identified with development applications, the adequacy of the community consultation.
• Inform and be involved in the updating of Neighbourhood Plans and other land use issues as referred by Council.
