Oakland's Outdoor Art (OOA) project reflects a three-decade long search to express the way we look at things - both for personal and shared meaning, involving both adults and younger people.
Some art was more traditional, i.e. 'public art' commissioned by and for the community's institutions. Many installations reflected the teamwork and diversity of the community. Happily, there were also pieces that reflect very personal and private artistic visions. Their art, rather than imported and imposed, reflects a quiet vitality and energy for artistic expression - art by and for the community.
